Forum Suggestion

Sorry to make my first "official" post a bit naggy. But...

Perhaps it is just me -- and more than likely it really, really is -- but I don't like all of the category listings. I find navigating through them pretty awkward. I would prefer all of it to be in one "folder" -- wrong word but you get the idea -- where I could look over the subject lines and see if I am interested in clicking on the topic.

Sorry if I come off as a bit shrill and complain-y. As Franco can tell you, I am an absolute whiz at coming up with suggestions I want other people to implement for me!

If no one else cares, or if that is the way this group is set up...fine. I will manage to muddle through one way or another (huge melodramatic sigh and out-turned palm placed upon my wearied brow)!

Kathleen
PS. I complain because I care.

Hi Kathleen

Umm.. I thought I would leave this one for a couple of days to see what other people thought, but no one seems to have an opinion about it emoticon

If you simply mean fewer catagories then personally I would be against it, as the group builds fewer catogories would mean more confusion on the threads in each catagory, and make it harder to find what you are looking for. You might not believe me now, but just wait until there are 100 members here. Adding extra catagories as time goes on will mean a lot of moving posts and threads to place them in newer, and more suitable locations. Which would be a lot of work for me. So I would rather plan ahead and have a surplus now, than need new ones in the future.

If you mean catagories, with subcatagories inside. Then this is probably going to end up being one of those, couldn't change it even if I wanted to things. A certain restricted functionality is the price you pay for free forums and hosting. And a pretty small price as far as I am concerned.

Keep the comments (complaints emoticon ) coming.

David

I agree with you David.I think some of the categories that don't see much action could be could be combined into a more general category though.

Right now I think you are right Danny. But like I said it is partly a case of planning for the future. Those catagories that are seeing little action at the moment could become important as time goes on. This forum is only a week old, and as yet I have done little to promote it. In a year they could be teeming with posts!

Basically I am moving slowly on attracting members because I am still learning the ropes, this is all new to me. I suspect that, as I advertise this place more, and as people here tell others, we are going to need more, rather than less areas to post. If there are still areas going underused in a couple of months I will consider combining them a bit more then. But I would rather sit it out and wait for now than restructuring just to have to change back again a few months down the line.

Hope you understand emoticon Please feel free to slap me if I turn into a tinpot forum dictator at any point.

David

I think your doing great David. I was thinking long term about combining forums. I should have been more specific.
