Re: Learning the Human Blockhead

Slow down! It sounds like your pushing it (literally and figuratively) too fast.

In my experience, the only reason there should be for the blockhead to hurt is because you accidentally slipped or bumped the object you're inserting; in the 3 or 4 years I've been doing this stunt, it's hurt only once.

As for it getting stuck, find a cross-sectional picture of the nasal cavities. You'll find they don't go straight back, and every person's physiological structure is different. The problem you're having is an issue of varying the angle of insertion.

If you're not already in direct contact with Slim, you should be. He's the man to talk to.

Good luck and BE SAFE.

Re: Learning the Human Blockhead

Reread what Slim sent you. There's a lot of info about blockhead in there. If you've any questions, ask him. Over the course of 50 years, he's done many if not all of the acts at one time or another. Don't be so quick to dismiss what he's taken the time to write and send to you, with only a offhand thanks. Go over it again, and MAYBE you'll realise what you have.
It appears from your posts that you're enthusiastic, no bad thing, but try to slow down a little. Even blockhead takes time. If it hurts, you're pushing too hard too soon.

Re: Learning the Human Blockhead

I think you do need to reread it. In my opinion, all the info you need on blockhead is there. I honestly think you're dangerous. To yourself, to others, and to the business. Quite frankly, I want to slap some sense into you. You're doing these acts without any instruction, yet when you get info from Slim, it's dismissed. LISTEN TO HIM. He's been in the business longer than many of the performers have been alive.
Do yourself a favour, and wait until you get a teacher.

Re: Learning the Human Blockhead

By now, I'd guess you think we're picking on you... Wrong! We care... You are in an ideal position now, or could be, you have an apparent goal. Sideshow acts, while dangerous are simple.
I could go to the park right now, pick up eight people and at the end of the week, I could take out the slop that many audiences think is a show! Doing the "tricks" is the easiest part.
Poor baby, you have four years to "use up" before you can be a show person? Use your school to get an education, study theatre, get a presence, get a voice, learn to move, to fill a stage, to compell an audience! Learn to ENTERTAIN! Otherwise you can make as much money as you can in this business saying the golden phrase, "You want fries with that?" Remember, sideshow people spend a lot of time being scared that they won't get the next gig... Master the basics of entertainment and you will lead a much better life, serve yourself and the business, and you can still abuse your body and live out of a suitcase.<G>

I was lucky, I started at your age, but I was in the best shows around and had fine experienced teachers around me 24/7.
I didn't get to college though, until I was 42. The man who taught me showmanship had 3 legs, 4 feet, and 16 toes.

Re: Learning the Human Blockhead

Nah, I never once thought you were picking on me. I know you care, or at least I think or you wouldn't be putting up with me at times. I tend to make !@#$ harder at times, and I know it. But yea, I seriously respect every person in this forum that is attempting to help me in my journy to sideshow acting. Yes I am going to college for a backup plan if sideshow dosen't work out for me. I have thought hours on end what I am gonna do from this point on. I am getting all I can out of my education, it might be the only thing that keeps me off the street later in life. I am hoping to get into computer programming, etc.
